Sélection de pommes de la plus amère à la plus sucrée
A selection of our apples, from the tartest to the sweetest

Apples are the most widely eaten fruit in France, and there are several thousand varieties. Grown mainly in autumn, apples can be used in a variety of ways: as a snack, in pies, in compote, or in juice. As a professional in the sector, you want to offer your customers products of unrivalled quality, but how do you choose the right apple for your needs? This article will help you choose the apples that best meet your expectations.

The taste

Different varieties of apple are available on our shelves, all with their own particular characteristics, the first criterion for choice being taste.

Each variety has its own specific characteristics: texture, taste and colour. It's important to take these into account when making your choice.

Looking for a sweet apple?

Gala, Fuji, Golden

Looking for a tart apple?

Granny Smith, Braeburn

Looking for a crisp apple?

Pink Lady, Elstar

Looking for a cooking apple?

Reine des reinettes, Belle de Boskoop

How to use it

For eating raw : a crunchy, sweet apple such as Gala, Fuji or Pink Lady.

For cooking : thanks to their firmness and slightly acidic taste, we recommend Granny Smith or Reine des reinettes, to make your best pies and compotes.

For juices and smoothies : we recommend a sweet apple such as Fuji or Golden.

How do you choose your apples ?

Apples have several quality criteria :

- Visual appearance : without brown spots or bruises, a smooth, shiny skin is generally the sign of a fresh apple.

- Firmness : if the apple is soft or has soft spots, it may be over-ripe.

Season and origin

The peak apple season runs from late summer to autumn. Choose local, seasonal apples to guarantee freshness and support producers.

The French regions best known for their apples are Normandy, Nord, Limousin and Brittany.

Conservation

Fridge or room temperature?

Depending on the variety, some apples are best kept at room temperature, such as Pink Lady or Gala, while others, such as Reines des Reinettes, are best kept in the fridge.

Properly stored, apples can be kept for several weeks. Apples intended for storage can be kept for longer, while the softer varieties should be eaten more quickly.

So, what's your favourite apple?
